Honey Sesame Chicken

Honey Sesame Chicken

We had a couple of friends over for dinner last week for dinner and games. It was a Monday and I needed to get some stuff done for work as well as get some other stuff done throughout the day, so I wanted a dinner that would take as minimal time to prepare as possible. I also wanted something that was delicious.


This dinner fit all of those requirements. Really it was just perfect for what we needed for dinner that night. It makes a really easy dinner for weeknights, but it's still delicious. We wanted a vegetable with dinner, so we bought a bag of stir fry veggies and sautéed it for a few minutes and added it to the chicken to serve on top of rice. All together it made a really delicious dinner. Plus it was really great to be able to just throw everything in the slow cooker and let cook.


One of the other nice things about this recipe was that we already had everything on hand. Just combine the ingredients for the sauce, pour it over the chicken, and start it cooking in your slow cooker. Just be sure to give yourself a few extra minutes right before dinner to shred the chicken and let the sauce thicken. Sweet and savory, this chicken is a perfect blend of flavors. Honey Sesame Chicken

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (can be frozen)

1/3 cup honey

½ cup soy sauce

¼ cup ketchup

2 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic minced

¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes


1/2 teaspoon pepper


1 heaping tablespoon cornstarch

1/3 cup water

2 tablespoons sesame seeds


Combine honey, soy sauce, ketchup, oil, onion, garlic, pepper flakes and pepper in the bowl of slow cooker. Whisk to combine. Place chicken in cooker, turning a couple time to coat it with the sauce. Cook on low 3 to 4 hours or just until chicken is cooked through.


Remove the chicken from slow cooker. In a small bowl, combine water and cornstarch. Add cornstarch mixture to the sauce that is left in the slow cooker. Turn heat of slow cooker on high. Place lid on cooker and let cook 10 minutes or until slightly thickened.


Meanwhile shred chicken. Return to pot. Add sesame seeds to chicken and sauce and stir to combine. Serve with rice and veggies. Serves 4-6.
